Cuban-American soprano Elizabeth Caballero, a Miami favorite, is widely recognized for her fearless portrayals of the lyric soprano repertoire, particularly the heroines of Puccini. The sheer beauty of her sound is beguiling. She has been praised by the New York Times for providing the evening’s most show-stopping performance offering a thrilling balance of pearly tone, exciting technique and brazen physicality. She participated in the Young Artist Program of the Florida Grand Opera, was an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera as well as a member of the company’s’ prestigious Merola Program. She is acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle as a powerful diva. In 2001 she was a National Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and has performed in many important opera houses in the United States and Europe. Caballero performed the role of Liu for Florida Grand Opera’s 2010-2011 season opener of Turandot. Critics raved at her meltingly effective performance. Recently she sang recitals in Montevideo following her highly successful June 2010 recital in Miami. She made her debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera as Frasquita in their new production of Carmen. Next season, Florida Grand Opera will feature Caballero in a rare revival of Puccini’s La Rondine.
